Class Survey / Graph

 

Subject Area:  Math, Computer

Grade Level:  3 - 8

Software:  Microsoft Excel

Equipment Needed:  computers, Clip art

Time required:  One 40 minute session

 

Student Instructions:

  1. Choose a topic:  class pets, favorite food, color of eyes, favorite color, etc.

  2. Survey your class and collect the date.

  3. Enter the data into a spreadsheet.  (Place the names of the items on the top
    row, and place the number of students in the second row.)

  4. Click and drag to highlight all cells with information.

  5. Click the Chart Wizard button on the standard toolbar.

  6. Decide what kind of chart you want. (A bar chart usually works best for a survey.)

  7. Click next twice.

  8. Give your chart a name and labels for the X and Y axes (i.e. Pets for the X axis and Numbers for the Y axis.)

  9. Click next.

  10. Click Finish.

  11. Click and drag your chart to the desired position.

  12. Insert clip art to make your chart attractive by choosing Insert/Picture/clip art.

  13. Type in search instructions to locate pet clip art.

  14. Click the picture to insert it into the spreadsheet.

  15. Resize as necessary by clicking and dragging with a corner handle.

  16. Click and drag the clip art to the location desired.
