Introduction:  History is the foundation on which our current musical styles are built.  By understanding the historical development of music, we are better able to appreciate the wealth of compositions available for our enjoyment.

Task:  The Music History Hall of Fame is currently developing its nomination list for inductees. You have been assigned the job of nominating a candidate for induction into the Hall of Fame.  It is your responsibility to nominate an artist/composer from the 20th century (1900 to the present).

In order to nominate a candidate it is your responsibility to research a potential candidate's contributions to the world of music from the links listed at the bottom of this Web page.  You must use at least three resources for each candidate submitted.

Candidates can be nominated from one of the following two categories:  Performers and Non-Performers (ex. composers/songwriters).  Submit nominations in the form of a biographical sketch audio-visual presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint persuading voters to elect your candidate.

Process:  Using Microsoft PowerPoint, create a minimum of  six (6) slides:

1.) a title slide,

2.) a biographical slide which includes a picture of your nominee,

3.) a timeline slide which shows when in history your nominee lived,

4.) a slide containing some of the important musical works and contributions of your nominee,

5.) a concluding slide which should include persuasive information as to why your nominee should be included in the Hall of Fame, and

6.) a bibliography slide citing your resources.  Click here for instructions on how to cite your sources.

Mrs. Slonneger will introduce you to PowerPoint showing you how to insert new slides and give them the layout you wish.  You will also be taught how to insert pictures/sounds into your presentation.  You are responsible for preparing and presenting the final nomination presentation.

Project Organization:

Select the artist/composer on which you wish to create your PowerPoint presentation.

Research the person you selected by using the links at the bottom of this page.

Take notes on the handout you were given for each slide.  You may add more slides than the 6 slides that are assigned for a basic presentation.

Start PowerPoint and enter the information you found.

The slides should include a timeline of your nominee's life, a photograph of your nominee, a list of important musical works and contributions, and information persuading the voters to elect your candidate, as well as a list of the resources you used.
